Parotitis: Prednisone will help reduce swelling or inflammation of your parotid gland, but is not typical treatment of parotitis. Treatment usually consists of an appropriate antibiotic, massage, heat therapy, hydration, and salivary stimulants like lemon drops or sour candy. Sometimes imaging like a CT scan is helpful to look for the unusual case of a stone blocking the main duct . See an ENT surgeon.
