A member asked:

My infant son was diagnosed with congenital torticollis. could this be a symptom of something more serious?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: This is usually quite evident on the initial newborn exam. The baby can be folded into a distorted position that they do not find uncomfortable, that includes neck, jaw and other facial changes. It usually reflects distorted position in the womb. Infants with abnormal neck vertebrae can have a similar appearance, but the exam differs. Some infants acquire torticolas from birth trauma.
