Several things: You may want to ice to the ball of the foot to reduce pain & swelling. You can put a gel pad under the ball of your foot to ease the pressure in your shoe when you walk.

Orthotics: Even though you are not in heels, you can still have too much pressure on the ball of the foot due to instability in your arch. This collapsed arch leads to more pressure on the ball of the foot. Custom orthotics will raise your arch and support it and reduce pressure on the ball of the foot. Negative heel shoes may also help. Ie. Earth shoes and calf stretching.
