Many ways: There are many different drug classes for the treatment of COPD. Ultimately it will be up to the pulmonologist to determine which medications are appropriate. There are inhaled medications as well as oral medications which may include antibiotics or steroids as needed. These days we have many new medications that can help keep the disease at bay.

Treatments vvary: Firstly, not all "COPDers" need medication early in their condition. Avoiding triggers for COPD attacks are of primary concern. Annual flu shots, pneumonia vaccines, etc are very important. Pulmonary rehab (exercises) are excellent in improving tolerance to exertions . Check with your physician on this course of action. Good Luck
