A member asked:

My dad has a t4 level of 94 and tsh is v low. he is on amiodarone . so dr said that may be causing it. should he stop taking it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Thyroid dysfunction (both excess and deficiency) are very common side effects of amiodarone. Whether or not he should stop it depends on why it was prescribed in the first place. This is best discussed with his cardiologist who knows his case. In many cases where amio must be used, the thyroid hormone can be successfully blocked with propylthiouracil or methimazole.
