A member asked:

Can platelet rich plasma injections for surgery harm someone with polycythemia vera? should prp not be used in patients with polycythemia vera?

Need specifics: Polycythemia vera goes through stages and the platelets may actually become deficient and/or ineffective. I'm going to assume your surgical team PROBABLY knows what they're doing, and your questions should be addressed to them first. Platelet-rich plasma isn't routinely used for surgery in any case. And you can take your specific concerns to your hematologist who's managing you.

Personally: I would not use in someone with a blood disorder such as polycythemia vera.
