It's very common: While I don't think the entire explanation of this is known, it is very common and could be considered normal. Perhaps fluid shifts in the body associated with menstrual hormone changes lead to less fluid in intestine resulting in constipation. Prepare for it or increase "bowel hygiene" all month: drink more fluids, more fiber (bran cereal, whole grain breads, fruits, veggies), exercise daily:)
