Several ideas: When a patient has persistent abdominal pain despite negative tests it suggests that either the patient has a less common condition that hasn't been considered or tested for OR that the symptoms aren't due to a physical illness. It is not unusual for patients to experience actual pain in various parts of their bodies from psychological causes. When the mind is treated the pain goes away.
