Cough meds: i think you mean antihistamines, which are used to decrease the body's reaction to allergens and some viruses such as the cold virus. They help decrease mucus production. Other meds used for cough include: guaifenesin (expectorant), dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), and benzonatate (rx anesthetic that reduces cough reflex). Each can be found in a single ingredient form. Ask your pharmacist

Pure Cough Preps: Robitussin DM (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan) and Delsym have guanefesin and dextromthorphan. These are not antihistamines.
