Yes: Strep throat can be a superinfection on top of a viral sore throat. Treating the strep does not always lead to an end to the symptoms since your body still must battle the virus.

Be patient: By your note, this had at least 2 days to build up before starting your 1 day of treatment. Antibiotics do not have direct anti-fever properties, they kill germs & when the germ load drops enough the fever will usually settle down. You may also have a co-existing virus like mono, that has it's own patters aside from the strep.
