Over-irritated skin: If a person's skin is overly irritated by benzoyl peroxide, one can put over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream on such a rash 2-3 times a day for a few days, and then 1-2 times a day for a few days. Of course, one would stop the benzoyl peroxide. A primary care doctor can help decide if a lower dose benzoyl peroxide (such as 2-5%) can be used. Prescription gels and creams may also be considered.
