Productive Cough: As this has been going on for a couple of weeks I think it is time to be seen. You didn't say if you smoked or if you had other exposures. I don't know if you have a fever. This could be coming from your lungs or your sinuses or both. Please make an appointment with your physician to be evaluated.

Inflammatory process: The production of mucous in the lung can be triggered by many things like infection, exposure to chemicals and other irritants, The underlying process is that the lung tissue becomes inflamed and mucous is produced as a protectant. Sometimes the body does to good of a job. You may have been exposed to one of a 1000 things. If no fever or color change try plain Robitussin (guaifenesin) and increase your fluids.

Virus? Allergies?: A cough is a symptom that can appear with several diseases: A cold, bronchitis, drainage from sinusitis, all which can be viral or bacterial. Allergies with post nasal drip can cause a cough. So do some meds and smoking.. If you have no other symptoms, a cold can make you cough up to a month. If it is still present and the mucus is clear see doc. If mucus has color to it, see doc this week.
