Fever: Most infections of fever and cough of 4 days duration are viral and can be treated with most over the counter medications unless you are getting worse. In this case consider seeing a doctor to start antibiotics. Mucinex DM, Tylenol (acetaminophen) and other cough and cold medications (Dayquil or Nyquil) can help with symptoms while your body fights the viral infection.
