Melanoma vs meds: Common measures of inflammation are ESR & CRP which are not very specific;many health problems raise them. When VERY high,we're concerned for cancer, vasculitis(blood vessel inflammation),bone/heart valve infection.ESR rising abruptly after starting Zelboraf for metastatic melanoma can be due to med-induced vasculitis,or the melanoma; your doc can guide you best. All the best to you in your battle.

Unrelated: ESR and C-reactive protein are laboratory values that are usually not very helpful in following patients with metastatic melanoma. Generally, scans such as CT or MRI are more helpful. Some patients do have an elevation in a laboratory value called LDH which can be helpful to follow.
