Tail bone pain: an x-ray can be "normal" with significant tail bone pain. You may have a bruised coccyx (tail bone) the lining of bone (periosteum) has a rich blood supply and therefore many nerve ending bleeding into this lining (bruise )can cause significant pain with sitting and standing. The x-ray would be negative (normal) . this condition is not dangerous.Treatment would be comfort measures.
