About

Bio

My training was with Pennsylvania State University and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. From there I took advanced training in several fellowships including Endocrinology and Nephrology, with both The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). At UPMC I was given the opportunity to study with one of the pioneers of transplant medicine, Dr. Starzl. I also, had the opportunity of studying for one year with the Director of the Joslin Clinic in Pittsburgh, where I developed a great interest in Diabetes, Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia. Even though, I pursued advanced training, my goal was never to be a sub-specialist, but rather to be a better prepared general internist.

Patent foramen ovale: PFO is a possible cause . patient would need a cardiac catheterization with bubble test. PFO is an opening between the right and left sides of the heart . This is usually closed in normal development . However , in some people this passageway remains open and can caused blood clots that can travel to the brain. If clot ( embolus ) blocks a blood vessel in the brain it could cause a stroke

Tail bone pain: an x-ray can be "normal" with significant tail bone pain. You may have a bruised coccyx (tail bone) the lining of bone (periosteum) has a rich blood supply and therefore many nerve ending bleeding into this lining (bruise )can cause significant pain with sitting and standing. The x-ray would be negative (normal) . this condition is not dangerous.Treatment would be comfort measures.
