Ibuprofen: Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen can be alternated for fever but you do not always have to correct fever. This is the bodies response to infection. Treat fever for comfort primarily. It does not sound like you have other concerns so I assume he is otherwise ok considering the fever.

Correct: You did the right thing. When a child has a fever he feels cold because the air around him is colder than he is. After his temperature comes down, observe him for signs of illness and if he seems to perk up you can continue to observe and treat his symptoms. Remember fever increases his fluid requirements so encourage fluids. If he is not better ion a day or two take him to the doctor.

Watch: him as the fever comes down! Kids feel "cold" when they have a fever. He should feel better when his temp comes down. Fever is a good thing as it is his immune system fighting an infection. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is good to make him feel better but does not help fight what is causing fever. This is why I say watch him carefully for any signs of breathing trouble, pain etc and see a provider if problems.
