No: Gardasil & Cervarix have been found to generally safe when given to people who are already infected with HPV, the vaccines DO NOT TREAT infection. they provide maximum benefit if a person receives them before he or she is sexually active . It is possible that some infected w/HPV may still get benefit from the vaccination, even if they are already infected but this is still under investigation

Get Vaccinated: Over 40 types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infect the genital tract; over 14 have high risk for development of cancer. There are 2 vaccines, both protect against 2 very high risk types; the other protects against 2 more. Vaccine does not cure/alter progression if already infected but will protect you against contracting a new high risk cancer type. Condoms give added protection against all types

Infection: Unfortunately, once infected the virus is in your system. Vaccination may help prevent future infections; however, unfortunately, not a guarantee.
