Hymen: The hymen is not really a covering in the vagina. It is a piece of tissue, sort of crescent shaped, to one side of the vagina. Although some people talk about "breaking" it or popping it, it doesn't have to be torn, but can be gradually stretched in advance of any sexual activity. The real definition of "virgin" is someone who hasn't had sex- they may or may not have an intact hymen.
