Upper resp infection: An upper respiratory infection from viral or bacterial cause or sinusitis can cause post-nasal drip and sputum production. If you have shortness of breath, you need to be seen in urgent care or ER, otherwise, you can rest, drink plenty of fluids, have chicken soup, warm salt water gargles for the throat, and treat your symptoms with OTC meds.
