A member asked:

What are numbing drops during an eye exam for?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diagnosis: Numbing drops, a topical anesthetic lasting 6-9 minutes, are used to allow the performance of certain tests like eye pressure. They can also indicate the source of pain in an eye since they eliminate mucosal pain. They are very useful. The only downside is that there is about 3-4 seconds of stinging after application until the effect starts.
