Quad tendinitis: The quadriceps muscle inserts via a thick tendon onto the top of the kneecap (patella). Quadriceps tendinitis (painful inflammation or intrinsic injury) can occur in the tendon with trauma or an overuse injury. Nonoperative management usually works: rest, ice, NSAIDs, stretching (heel toward buttocks), and potentially formal physical therapy can all help.
