Hello, By definition, sinusitis is inflammation of the sinus mucous membranes. This commonly occurs with inflammation in the nose so the newer version of sinusitis is now referred to as Rhinosinusitis. This could be acute or chronic and caused by infections from viruses, bacteria and fungus. Allergy, polyps, nasal blockage, immune deficiency and structural troubles can all cause rhinosinusitis.
