A member asked:

Self medicating librium (clordiazepoxide), what is this for?

Benzodiazepines: are called "tranquillizers," but they are similar to any sedating drug, and in excess dosage cause sleepiness and impairment. Anxiety can be treated without drugs, through psychotherapy, avoidance of anxiety-provoking stimuli, and self-management techniques (self-hypnosis, mediation, guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation) and other techniques. They should NEVER be self-prescribed.

Librium: Librium has been used to treat anxiety, tremor and acute alcohol withdrawal. It is a long acting benzodiazapine. It should never be used to "self- medicate".
