Could be perception?: As it numbs the posterior pharanx it may give you the false impression that you cannot get enough air. If instead, you find that you are straining for breath and cannot move air you need to IMMEDIATELY discontinue the medication and seek medical attention as it could indicate a life-threatening situation. However, most of the time it is due to altered perception of air intake due to numbing.
