A member asked:

What is the prevalence of ketonuria among diabetis patiece?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ketones in urine: Anyone, diabetic or not, will get ketones in the urine after fasting (not eating). It is a natural response to low insulin and fat metabolism from not eating for a while. Many people have ketonuria in the AM when waking up. In type 1 diabetes, doctors worry about diabetic ketoacidosis, which is extreme ketones from lack of insulin. People with this are quite ill.
