Continuing exposure.: The resin from the poison ivy/oak can continue to cause you problem. Be sure to wash off anything which has touched the poison ivy with a laundry detergent to rid of the resin. Don not overlook the gloves, boots, or even your car's floor mat. If the problem is not serious, topical hydrocortisone may help. For more severe problem , a Rx strength topical steroid and /or oral cortisone may b neede

I've had pretty good success treating poison ivy/oak with an OTC product called Zanfel. You need to follow the directions completely and carefully and if so, it can clear the reaction in 2 days or less. The biggest benefit is that the itching stops immediately. It's a little expensive but worth it and avoids steroids.
