A member asked:

What to do if patient(67 yrs old)suffering from ascitis diagnosed but all test reports are positive.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diagnose and drain: Ascites is a complication of peritoneal cancer especially involving omentum. If work up fails to show cancer then liver portal hypertension is next most common cause. Depending on the amount of drainage daily, if excessive then a shunt such as a Denver or Leveen shunt is used to force peritoneal build up of fluid into the one way tubing which is then implanted in the jugular vein.
