A member asked:

What is the difference between asacol (mesalamine) and lialda. do some people have different side effects to one vs the other/?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: Both meselamine (5-amino-salicylic acid).Lialda is long-acting and is taken 2Xdaily.Asacol (mesalamine) is not long acting and is taken 3 Xs daily.Asacol (mesalamine) is no longer available in the U.S.but can be obtained in the rest of the world and it is MUCH cheaper than Lialda. You can fax your prescription to a Canadian pharmacy for asacol(different trade name but same thing) if u have to pay Lialda out of pocket.Best
