Nerve damage: Nerve damage can be reversed. Nerves of the cauda equina and peripheral nerves can regenerate. Spinal cord stimulation and bladder stimulation can be used to improve function. See a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who focuses on spinal cord injury.

This is serious: It is good the cauda equina syndrome was recognized and immediately surgically corrected. This will take time to see what the final improvement is. Your friend will need to work hard to control the recovery but the outcome sounds like it is on the correct pathway.
