Clean slate best: There are very few true hypochondriac patients, in my opinion. Often the symptoms are real, but not understood. Best not to give that diagnosis, since it is descriptive with no objective testing involved except for history of unnecessary procedures, perhaps. Often, people obscessed with having health problems are OCD or depressed, both of which are treatable diseases.

The largest concern is that with hypochondriasis we are often overwhelmed with the number of complaints and it is difficult to sort out which complaints may require further work up or testing.It is also helpful to seek counseling to calm some of the fears around disease
