Very possible : It's very possible that you have been exposed to a virus. Watch your symptoms for increased fever, and other worsening signs of a more significant illness. Drink plenty of fluids, get good rest and eat well. If getting worse after 5-7days consider getting a consult. Always be seen if significant worsening. Gargling warm salt water and plain Robitussin (guaifenesin) may help symptoms. Good luck.

Maybe a cold: cough and a scratchy throat may be related to a cold which is a viral infection. But you may also have allergies to pollen or trees or other environmental things. If you are getting worse or have symptoms such as fever or phlegm which is discolored, you may have a bacterial upper respiratory infection. In the meantime drink extra liquids, wash your hands well and take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for aches/pains.
