I hit my head and my neck hurts the bottom of my head near the top of my spine connected to my head why is that?

Muscle Attachment: There is a strong system of muscles surrounding and supporting the neck. Any head trauma likely involves some neck trauma as well. Nearby neck muscles engage to protect the spine, and thus may create some soreness at sites away from the main area of injury or trauma.
