A member asked:

I'm 37.3 weeks pregnant. got hvs test done. culture result shows high candida species (non albicans). what does that mean? is it dangerous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Candida species: Assuming that you had vaginal testing for the presence of Herpes virus to predict vertical transmission to your baby, this is only 50% sensitive altho highly specific. Why the specimen was cultured for yeast is unclear, but non-albicans species can also produce vulvovaginitis, altho not commonly. This should be easy to eliminate if your obstetrician feels it is relevant. It is not dangerous.
