New treatments: Interferon is a drug used to treat HCV, does not act on the virus itself. Newer agents, called direct acting antivirals, act directly on the virus to suppress proliferation. The first DAAs required ribavirin and even interferon, but the newer agents will be mixed together so that neither ribavirin and interferon will be required. These should be available soon, so you may want to wait.
