Eye swollen: At 6 months of age I would think infection before allergy when it comes to swelling around the eye, especially if the skin looks red. Have him seen right away. If it is swollen to the point of not being able to see his eye, take him to the ER now. It could be very serious.

Should be seen: Swelling of the eye can be a periorbital infection, less likely is eye allergy . Especially with only one eye involved and with swelling as you describe. If the area around the eye is red, hot or becoming more swollen you need immediate medical attention for your baby.

Infection: Eye allergy usually affects both eyes and not one. Eye allergy also itches. When only one is affected, one must consider an infection. Consult your doctor.
