Tonsilloliths: White bumps on the tonsil are caused by collection of food particles and debris in the grooves of the surface of the tonsil called tonsillar crypts. The crypts get blocked and form these tiny bumps - similar to a blocked sweat gland or boil. These ultimately either stay as such or may burst and resolve. They are usually harmless but can cause bad breath or repeated infections.
