If Rx fails-surgery: We do everything not to operate especially in the post partum period but if long standing drainage-infection- drainage-- abscesses we will make a circumareolar incision and tie off the ducts under the nipple and remove all surrounding inflammatory tissue.

Keep pumping: Try to keep the breast milk flowing, either with the baby sucking or pumping. Recurrent mastitis can be common. I recommend consulting with a breast surgeon who can help manage this problem.
