A member asked:

Has graves' disease got anything to do with not being able to eat? i've been diagnosed but can't eat at the moment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not generally: Hi. I'm glad you saw a doctor and she/he made the diagnosis. Graves' is often associated with initial weight loss, but it's not due to not eating. Some people with Graves' describe difficulty with swallowing, but it's more the biochemical hyperthyroidism than any effect of goiter. Do not have thyroidectomy surgery for treatment. Use 131-Iodine or methimazole. Talk with your endocrinologist.
