Alcohol disinhibits: Which means it causes us to do things we normally wouldn't do. So speeding becomes natural, even through lights. Trying to pass unsafely can cause head on collisions and alcohol causes a loss of ability to acurately judge distances. Alcohol is also sedating and can cause you to nodd off at the wheel.
