Depends: The best antibiotic for a urinary tract infection is based on the result of a culture and sensitivity testing of the urine. Empiric treatment is usually started with Amoxicillin or Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) while awaiting culture results. Culture and sensitivity take about two days.
