Pain: There is a joint at the base of your pinky toe. The joint my be swollen or inflammed. I would wear loose fitting shoes, apply ice twice a day for 10-15 minutes and take some OTC medicine like Advil (ibuprofen) or Motrin. If still painful after 10-14 days seek a specialist.

Snap: Very sudden, in this case, may mean that you have damaged the bone. Might be wise to have it x-rayed to find out.

I would ask: what you were walking in? some people wear these flat shoes with no support and this is not good for your feet and could cause problems. A fracture is not out of the question...
