Level of expertise: General practitioners cover all aspects of medical care; this sometimes includes management of pregnancy and labor and delivery. Obstetricians are specifically trained in the management of pregnancy/labor/delivery and are ususally able to handle most pregnancies, including complicated ones. Maternal-fetal specialists only deal with complicated pregnancies.
