Genetic Predisposed: There is probably a large genetic component and they are working on gene therapy, but that is a way off. Fibroid "food" is estrogen, so often unopposed estrogen can make it grow. Stay away from soy products or other phytoestrogens. I've heard that lysine (used for varicose veins) may help. Also, acupuncture may help. Fibroids usually create bleeding or pain depending on where their location is.

Hormone balance: Fibroids are a result of high estrogen levels. High estrogen can be caused by excessive carbohydrate intake (via competetive inhibition of glucoronidase enzyme) therefore a low carb diet is beneficial to reduce estrogen and help shrink fibroids. You may also have low iodine, thyroid problems, low progesterone. All of these things should be evaluated. All phytoestrogens should be avoided.
