Screening test: An abnormal AFP simply means that your test results showed your risk of an abnormality was higher than your risk from your age alone. This is a screening test meaning that the vast majority of people will be normal and a small group will fail the test and require more testing. The next set of tests are what is important to determine if anything is wrong.
