Esophageal spasm: This may be one of a few things, from a spasm of the esophageal musculature to a hiatal hernia, to a condition know as globus hystericus. Bottom line is this should be evaluated by a gastroenterologist, and may require some further testing including a barium swallow or endoscopy. He may first try a brief course of an antispasmodic medication before more invasive testing is done.
