A member asked:

You should not lay on your back during pregnancy but can the same pressure on the vena cava be caused by leaning/sitting up against a hard surface?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but different: There is some compression of the vena cava sitting up or leaning against a hard surface, but it is minimal and temporary compared to the pressure of a weighted uterus on the vena cava while lying on your back while pregnant.
