UTI Rx: True urinary tract infections are treated with antibiotics, available by prescription only. Untreated infections can progress to kidney and/or blood involvement, and can be quite serious. Uva ursi is an herb which has shown to prevent E. Coli, one of the leading causes of UTI's, to be unable to adhere to the bladder walls, but is likely not an effective treatment for an established infection.

Figure out cause?: I agree with you. The challenge is figuring out what causes the UTIs? If a source isn't found and corrected, eventually abx resistance will occur. Examples include infected renal stones or anatomical abnormalities. Since this may be difficult for pt to determine, aim for a consult with an infectious diseases specialist - once the cause is addressed, you won't need to see the doctor for this issue.
