A member asked:

If my child has a fever, will he have a febrile seizure?

Dr. Ruben Nazario
Specializes in Pediatrics
No: Febrile seizures are common in children between 6 months and 6 years of age. They occur when your child's temperature raises rapidly. So, no, not all children with fevers will have a febrile seizure. About one in twenty-five children in this age group will have a febrile seizure. But the risk is slightly higher if your child has a sibling who has had a febrile seizure in the past.
A member asked:

How can I tell if my childs skin rash is from exposure to poison oak?

Dr. Pamela Lindor

Contact dermatitis: Poison ivy, oak and sumac all contain the same substance which causes a severe contact skin reaction in most people. The rash will appear from about 24-48 hours after the exposure to the plant oil. It is red, raised, very itchy and often has a seepy discharge or blisters. It will often appear in "streaky" lines on the areas which were exposed. Rash on the face can cause a lot of swelling.

A 21-year-old male asked:

Is it bad if I sometimes feel pain on the right side of my body when I run and sometimes when I walk? Sometimes its on my left side. Is this bad?

Maybe, maybe not: If a person is "out of shape" due to not exercising recently, then getting some muscle aches or cramps with running or walking isn't bad. With stretching, massage, and a gradual increase in exercises, the symptoms should go away. If symptoms persist or are worrisome, a primary care doctor should evaluate to see if there is a disease or disorder that is causing the pains.

A female asked:

Do I have dry skin or eczema? My body tends to get dry easily. Why is that? And how can I make it better?

Doc needs to examine: Many skin conditions are difficult to diagnose without being seen. Some preventive measures: take warm showers (hot ones strip natural oils; baths do likewise); moisturize immediately after shower; if in sun or wind, moisturize & use sunblock; avoid strong soaps/body washes.
