Yes, it can: Interpretation of physical signals can be misread by people. A good specialist psychotherapist might be able to help you learn better responses to the 'weird' cues you get. You seem to know that it can not be 'real' need for food and that will be a great start. Cognative/Emotional understanding and Retraining is perhaps better than medication to address your 'real' needs. Best wishes.
